A Fair is a Veritable Smorgasbord

August 29, 2010

I love the Trumansburg Fair.  In fact, I love it so much that I originally began this post by referring to it as the “highlight of my year,” until I realized how incredibly pathetic that sounds.  Still, I do truly love it, even in years, like this one, when I don’t get out to my very favorite part of the event — the Demolition Derby.

Yes, I love me some Demolition Derby.  I try to get my husband to enter every year, and every year I am stymied by the fact that our adorable Fall Creek home has no driveway in which one could prep a derby car.  (At least, that’s the excuse he’s running with — it’s possible what he really wants to say is, “WOMAN! You craaaaaazy.”)  But cars of assorted shapes and sizes driving into each other in the mud and occasionally catching on fire?  What other form of entertainment can possibly beat that?

Even if the Derby isn’t your thing, the T*burg Fair has got lots to offer.  Rides, games, animals, you name it —  a good time can be had by all.  Just check out the pictures of Corrina above, my favorite of which has her wondering how it has come to pass that she and a monkey have the same Cozy Coupe. Also, is it just me, or does my littlest one (at least in the middle picture) slightly resemble one of the greatest little girl literary heroines of all time:

I wonder how long it’ll be before she wants a pet pig.

So, did you do the Fair this year?  Tell me about it!
