Look of the Week: April 5, 2010

April 5, 2010

Bella, Bella, Isabella … this 10-month-old could not have been sweeter during our photo shoot.  Gazing at her, I wondered briefly if the addage about little girls being made of sugar and spice and everything nice might be true…. then I remembered the demon sassmonster who lives in my house, and discarded that notion immediately.

Isabella, however, was an absolute delight while modeling the Look of the Week.  Her outfit begins with a matching knit dress and hat by Masaccio Baby (size 12-18 months; $6.95) over a set of pink bloomers from our bloomers bin.  (one size, 50 cents)

To keep her fantastic chubby legs warm, Bella wears a pair of red Huggalugs (size  0-6, $11.98) and covers her teensy toes with a pair of used Pedipeds (size 6-12 months, $5.95.)

A few words in praise of Huggalugs, and baby leg warmers in general:  if you don’t own a pair, you should.  The first time I bought some for Corrina, I felt ridiculous.  I stashed them away in the diaper bag, hidden from the questioning eyes of my husband, ashamed that I’d become the kind of mother who bought ridiculous accessories for her child for purely aesthetic reasons.  Soon after, however, Rina’s legs got cold at an outdoor wedding, I pulled those babies out, and, voila!  Problem solved!  Now, Rina wears them all the time.  We own, like, a bazillion pairs, and they never fail to look adorable, cause strangers to compliment her outfits, and make diaper changing thousands of times easier than pants.

Back to today’s model — thank you, darling Isabella, for lending us your gorgeous face and sunny demeanor.  May your mama truly appreciate this time in your life, never undestimating the value of dresssing a child who cannot walk away from you or mouth off about your sartorial choices.

Isabella wistfully contemplates her modeling career. "Sure, I'm in the spotlight today, but will they still love me tomorrow?"

Happy Monday!

Isabella is absolutely adorable, as is her outfit! I will also admit to buying a few baby leg warmers before Aurelia was born (talk about feeling ridiculous – she was still in the womb!) But, lo and behold, they came in pretty handy this weekend when her legs got chilly in the evening. Cute *and* functional!

Coop has been known to sport some baby legs, and wanted me to mention here that the baby leg warmer craze is not just for little girls anymore…
