Sunflower Butter Cookies

This cookie recipe comes from Lisa Baker, long-time customer and Mama to Ben. You can find Sunflower seed butter in the bulk section of GreenStar Co-Op. Stay tuned, we profile Lisa this week!


  • 3/4 whole wheat flour
  • 3/4 cup white flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/2 cup sunflower seed butter


  • 1 tablespoon sugar, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 tablespoon salt


Preheat oven to 350.

Prepare topping and set aside.

Line 2 baking sheets with parchment.

In medium bowl, mix flours, baking soda and salt.

In large bowl, cream butter and sugars.

Beat in egg, vanilla and sunflower butter.

Add dry ingredients and mix until combined.

Drop dough in one-inch balls on prepared baking sheets.

Dip fork in small bowl of water and press down in a cross-hatch pattern on each cookie.

Sprinkle with cinnamon, sugar, salt topping.

Bake 12 minutes, until just beginning to brown.

    YES! I’ve been missing peanut butter cookies ever since being diagnosed with an peanut allergy 5 years ago. Too afraid to even feed peanuts to my 2 year old, I have been loving sun butter as a (very similar) substitute. We get ours at Wegmans, so I think it’s becoming easier to find.

    I am going to print this recipe and make them with my kiddo this afternoon. Thanks!!!
